Mr. Torsten BATTENBERG
Head of Risk Asia Pacific
Fidelity International

Torsten Battenberg was born in Germany in 1968 and graduated from Gymnasium, the German equivalent to High School, in 1988. After completing his national Service, he joined Dresdner Bank where he completed a two years apprenticeship with the German banking diploma.

In 1992, Torsten joined the Investment Banking arm of Dresdner Bank where he soon headed a team responsible for the operational controls of FX Options. He regarded this area as an ideal starting point for young risk managers, since various parts of the risk framework were already existing in the early 90's. Processes were far more manual and provided an excellent insight into processes and controls in financial firms, which creates a solid foundation for the understanding of Risk and process management. In 1998 he joined the Middle Office, where he was soon responsible for the global coordination for New Product Implementation (NPI) for debt products. At the end of 2000, he moved to Singapore to support in the creation of an Asia Pacific hub for the Group Audit function of Dresdner. In 2002 he moved to Tokyo where he was heading the Operational Risk function in Asia Pacific for two years. He returned to Germany in 2004 to be a key project manager in corporate key projects.

In April 2005, Torsten returned to Japan and joined Fidelity International as the Head of Risk Asia Pacific.
